$2 blaster review... yes another one (Air Blaster Foam Dart Gun)

Well, here we go again. I don't know why I do this to myself but I'm doing it anyway.

Nerf, Nerf N-Strike, Nerf N-Strike Elite, Nerf N-Strike Elite Mega... then what?

Nerf has come a long way since that spongey foam ball in the 1960s. Today they are one of the most recognised toy brands along with Barbie, Hotwheels and LEGO. But where does a brand go once they release their flagship item?

Urban Taggers is no more!

Today is a sad day for Nerfers everywhere with the end of Urban Taggers! I'm not making this up!

Ultra Shot Foam Dart Blaster review

When I say "cheap blaster", I don't mean cheap to buy, I mean cheap to manufacture. When every possible corner has been cut and the quality control team are on permanent holiday. This is one of those blasters.

Batman: Dark Knight Rises Triple Barrel Grapnel review

I like it when toy companies other than Hasbro make their dart blasters capable of firing Nerf branded darts (listening Buzz Bee?). But I was quite surprised to see Mattel, Hasbro's arch rival make a blaster that fires Nerf sized darts.

Tek Recon, changing how you blast

This post has been a long time coming. Before starting this blog I put together a lot of material about Nerf and other branded foam dart blasters (ie. Buzz Bee) and have been working through that. But as I near the end of my backlog ("backlog", insert childish giggle here) I've taken some time to put together an article about the new kid in the game... Tek Recon!

$5 Nerf Element ripoff (Crossfire Gun)

IF you do something well, there will always be those that copy you. Nerf experiences this often and are not too pleased about it (ask Buzz Bee). But, if you're a small company, one that goes un-noticed, flies under the radar or is not perceived as a threat. You might get away with this...

Nerf N-Strike Barricade RV-10 mod guide

The Barricade is perfect for dual wielding. It's only issue is that it's setup to fire whistler darts, this means the flywheels are placed too far apart to fire streamliners or Elite darts well... MOD TIME!

Nerf Dart Tag Speedswarm review

IF you've ever needed an excuse to shoot at other people with Nerf blasters (excluding HvZ and Nerf Wars) Dart Tag is it. Dart Tag is not a new thing, it's been around since 2003 but in 2011, the current line of Dart Tag blasters (current at the time of me writing this) was released. New design, new mechanics (mostly) and all in yellow. Of the new designs there are two fully automatic blasters, the Speedswarm and the Swarmfire.

Nerf N-Strike Maverick REV-6 mod guide

Ahh the Maverick. It's the highest selling Nerf blaster ever for a good reason. It's awesome. But now we have the Elite series and the Maverick is starting to look underpowered compared to its successor the Strongarm. Good news is, we can give the ol' Maverick some extra oomph.

We'll be covering:
- AR removal
- increasing the spring's compression (coin mod)
- full barrel (but actually a cylinder) drop

Nerf N-Strike Elite Firestrike mod guide

The Firestrike is a tiny but mighty pistol, but (as with all blasters) there is room for improvement.

Nerf N-Strike Maverick REV-6 review

Nothing quite compares to the manly feel of a 6 shooter in your hand. That could be why the Maverick REV-6 is still Nerf's highest selling blaster EVER!

Buzz Bee Tetra Strike review

Well, here is another Buzz Bee blaster that I didn't own for very long. The Tetra Strike has similarities to the Nerf Mag Strike. But falls far from the mark.

Nerf N-Strike Stampede ECS review

You've gotta love big guns. There is a child's voice inside us all that says "WOW, LOOK AT THAT GUN! IT'S HUGE". And this applies to all guns, whether it be an actual firearm, Airsoft, Nerf, or in a video game. The Stampede and Vulcan are no exception. It's never a question of "do you like big blasters or small ones?", no. It's more like "do you prefer the Stampede or the Vulcan?", and the answer is never "neither".

Leyuan Hotwheel Semi-Auto Soft Bullet Gun review

There are several alternate brands to Nerf, currently Buzz Bee is a distant second but after that the rest of the brands are kind of mashed up. One of those brands is Leyuan. Leyuan started with copying the Nerf Barricade. They called it the Raging Fire but didn't bother to remove "Barricade RV-10" from the side of the moulding.

Nerf N-Strike Elite Retaliator review

The N-Strike Recon's performance wasn't really too good but the reason it was popular with Nerfers was because of the accessories that came with it. It's Elite follow-up, the Retaliator, can accessorise too, but now it can also perform.

Nerf N-Strike Rayven CS-18 review

Before the Rayven, there was the Firefly. A bullpup design blaster that had an 8 dart cylinder in it made of clear plastic to allow light through to "charge" the glow-in-the-dark suction-cap darts. Fast forward a few years and the Firefly blaster name has been dropped, but as a "tech" it continues in the Rayven.

Nerf N-Strike Barricade RV-10 review

Dual wielding the Maverick or Strongarm can be a cumbersome affair. If you're going to dual wield anything, it needs to be light and semi-auto at least. This is where the Barricade slips in.

Nerf N-Strike Elite Rampage review

The N-Strike Raider Rapid Fire CS-35 is an "either you like it or you hate it" type of blaster. The 35 dart drum gave you a good amount of blasting before the need to reload but the weight was an issue for some and it did impede visibility. The reverse type plunger was was an issue for some too but slam-fire was a nice inclusion.

Nerf Vortex Pyragon review

Since Nerf released the Vortex line, its blasters have been missing one thing. Slam-fire, but worry no more because we now have the Pyragon.

Nerf Vortex Praxis review

The Vortex line is poo-pood by hardline Nerfers, but, the Praxis is probably the first of Vortex blaster you'd arm yourself with in a war (an indoor one).

Nerf N-Strike Elite Firestrike review

The Nite Finder won hearts as a direct plunger pistol blaster and became more popular due to the almost endless array of cosmetic modifications. Then came the Elite series and the Firestrike, the Nite Finder's successor, It features the same stuff as the Nite Finder, stalk type primer, holder for 2 extra darts, red sight light and tactical rail. The plastic had a quality feel to it and the orange, blue and white colour scheme looks good on this blaster.

Nerf N-Strike Elite Strongarm review

The N-Strike Maverick is still (to date) the best selling Nerf blaster of all time, but it shows its age. A combination of price, dart capacity and ease of use (not to mention the manly feel of a six-shooter in your hand) led to the success of the Maverick. Then Elite happened and it spawned the Strongarm. This slick looking six-shooter features a direct plunger, tac rail, 2 anchor points for a shoulder strap and the good ole 6 dart capacity we've come to love, with slam-fire :)

Nerf N-Strike Elite Stockade review

The Barricade RV-10 is an ideal candidate for dual wielding, but there is always room for improvement, that is why the Elite line exists. Enter the Stockade.

Nerf Vortex Diatron review

If you've never played with a Diatron before the best I can describe it is; it's like a Vigilon that can fire two discs at once. That's exactly what it is like.

The Diatron is one of the new Vortex blasters and features the new (and AMAZING) colour scheme. Gone are the days of the Alien vomit green. Nerf have also stopped trying to make the Vortex blasters looks like Alien guns and have gone for a more industrial look and me likes it.

Nerf N-Strike Elite Rough Cut 2X4 review

Fans of Nerf blasters and shotguns liked the N-Strike Barrel Break. It had a loading style akin to a double barrel shotgun and one that was unique to Nerf blasters (previous or present). The Rough Cut 2X4 is its Elite successor.

Buzz Bee Jaguar review

Buzz Bee are a funny brand. I get the feeling they can produce blasters that are as good as what Nerf give us but for some reason they are holding back... strange. Don't get me wrong, Buzz Bee make some good looking blasters and have some interesting concepts, but this doesn't mean too much with if they can't produce a performing blaster. The Jaguar is...

My Last Dart's request.

So it turns out my Zombiestrike Blade alternative design concept is popular... this one,

My Last Dart likes it too, but he also had this to say...

Something is happening in US at the moment!

So in the last few hours, here's what's happened:

Kmart, Walmart and Toys r Us (in USA) all now have the Mega Centurion available for pre-order on their websites:

Mega Centurion now available for pre-order at (USA)

If there are any USA readers here, look at this:

Toys R Us (USA) have the Mega Centurion available on their website

Nerf Mega Centurion is now available for pre-order on the Toys R Us USA website:

Zombiestrike, there is still time to fix it!

So now that we've had time to vent our disappointment at the revealed 2014 Zombiestrike blasters and blade, I though I'd take a moment to think about the Zombiestrike line logically for a moment.

The first thing we need to consider is that these blasters have not been officially announced by Hasbro yet (I think, they still deny ZS is even a thing yet). But even if they are (officially announced), these are 2014 blasters (and blade). There is still time for Hasbro to gauge the feed back and make changes to the aesthetic design, yes, I'm implying that these leaks were intended.

Zombiestrike Blade as it should've been

So with the all the noise about the 2014 Zombiestrike products being recycled rejected designs. There hasn't been much said about the Zombiestrike Blade. It doesn't look pseudo post-apoc like the Hammershot and the Sledgefire (neither do the rest of the blasters really). But, the design of the sword really bugged me. If there was a zombie apocalypse and you were to grab a blade weapon, it would not be a sword would it. And even if it was, a broad sword? No.

You'll need something lighter than a sword, but at the same time, with a blade long enough to take off an undead head quickly, but no so long that you can't sheathe it. So a knife right? But it has to be a big knife.

Hasbro has created Nerf zombies!

It has just occurred to me that the Zombiestrike line is very well named!

What is a zombie? It's something that was once living that has died and then been brought back from the dead (made undead). So, knowing that and seeing the 2014 Zombiestrike blasters looking like designs that were once going to happen then killed off and then brought back to life, you can't help but wonder if this was intended from the start (part of an elaborate troll form Hasbro?) or purely

Australia in no Stryfe at all.

When we love something or someone, we do so regardless of their flaws. And while we all do love Nerf, they are not with out their flaws.

Now I'm not talking about Zombiestrike (there will be another post about that soon). I'm talking about the painfully long time it's taking Nerf to release the Stryfe here in Australia. The Elite Stryfe has been out in the USA since late 2012, it's July now and sill no Stryfe for us :(

Granted we get some blasters before the USA such as the Barricade and Elite Stockade, but I don't think USA Nerfers had to wait almost 8 months (that's 3/4 of a year) for them! I understand Nerf being a USA company will want to favor it's USA fans first, or if Nerf are testing the local market with a new blaster before sending it overseas... but 8 months? Surely you've collected all the data you need to make a decision by now? Haven't you Nerf?

"Elite" Crossfire with Stockade shoulder stock

So Bazookafied took Matt Robinson's Elite moc-up of the Zombistrike Crossfire crossbow and made it look more Elite-ish, so I went one step further and put the Elite badge on the handle and put a Stockade shoulder-stock on it... actually looks OK. I had to take the photo of the shoulder-stock myself because Google couldn't provide a pic at the right angle.

Leyuan/Zecong, never heard of them? Read on...

If you've never heard of Leyuan that's ok. Not a lot of people have. However some have heard of the Photon Storm (thanks to SG Nerf) and the Raging Fire (Barricade rip-off). Well after they got tired of copying Nerf (and Buzz Bee) they started to make their own blasters and some of them look ok. They still make the rip-off blasters (they make a white barricade that is kinda cool), but some of their original blasters look ok. There is the link to their blasters gallery:

Older Vortex blasters get new paint job

It was a long time coming, but Nerf have finally decided to get rid of the alien puke green and have gone for a blue-on-white look, it's a welcome change, but (in my opinion) it doesn't look as good as the red, white and grey of the newer Vortex blasters.

You be the judge.

Credit goes to "Dave" from Tennessee.

Sonic Ice Rampage unboxing

Thanks to Wei Ping from Baidu, we can now have a look at the Sonic Ice Rampage in its entirety. So far as we know, there are no performance upgrades (not that it would really matter in Australia anyway) it's basically a Sonic series for Elite Blasters. No word on an Aussie release date yet.

Pics have popped up on the net of the yet to be released Zombie Strike Sledgefire. At first glance it appears to load like a Barrel Break but it's primed with the hammer and it's got shells!!!

More Mega blasters for American Spring next year.

Some guy called Alexandre Champoux found a not so hidden piece of info on a box of Mega darts. It clearly states that we can expect more Elite Mega blasters next year. However, one of the rumored blasters is called the Javelin. Will these darts work in a blaster with a name that suggests large ammunition? Only time will tell.

Nerf in last quater of 2013

The last quarter of 2013 looks to be a busy time for Nerf and exciting for us.

RAPIDSTRIKE CS-18 will cost $64.99, to be released in September

MEGA CENTURION will cost $74.99, to be released in October

REVONIX 360 will cost $74.99, to be released in September

These blasters will cost more for us Aussies than they do for our USA compatriots, and will likely be tuned down as well to comply with Australian safety regulations.. fail.

As for Rebelle... I dunno, but we can expect Target to get 2 exclusive Zombie Strike blasters, the Hammershot and something called a "Sledge Fire" in October
