Nerf MEGA Magnus pics and price

So while I was out catching a movie with my son, Banckroft got some pics of the MEGA Magnus. Those Germans huh?

I might as well get it out of the way first, here is the pic...

As you can clearly see from this picture, there is a cat in it. By the time I turned my phone on after the movie and got my emails, several other blogs already had posts with the pics of the Magnus, so to be different, I put a cat on mine.

Note, the first thing I notice (after the red) is the lack of dart storage, the listing for the blaster states it has a 3 dart capacity, but I don't see any holders or mags (or mag well) anywhere. To me this blaster looks like a big red Retaliator. "Redtaliator"... no? Ok, moving on.

It looks as though you pull the slide back and load a dart into the chamber then close the breach... another mega fail if you ask me (see what I did there?). I'm sure someone will take the time (one day) to mod this so it can be a clip fed blaster, but it should be out-of-the-box. There is no tactical rail on the top but there is one underneath.

I see no sign of the "Top-loading clip lets you reload fast one-handed" feature that the listing states. Though there does appear to be extra room under the barrel. What we have here is a big red Sidestrike... only worse because there appears to be no storage for additional darts (unless it's a dart holder tactical accessory that comes with the blaster that is not yet know of. If there is an internal clip, then you would need to push the darts through the breech into the clip below it. Or, there might be a drop-door like on the Vortex Vigilon or Diatron.

Here is a higher res photo of the Magnus but without the cat...

The asking price at is €24.99 which is equal to USD33.78 or AUD36.11 (conversions are correct as of me writing this). That is a lot for a single shot pistol, I don't care if it's "MEGA", $30+ is TOO MUCH for a single shot pistol. This blaster looks as though it could have a barrel attached, but, the Stockade/Barricade do too.

The description on the Banckroft listing goes (Google translated):

It was really only a matter of time until the Mega Series is adapted from the Centurion over a meter long on a slightly more compact format. Even if there is something to the market launch yet, we expect the Magnus not before December 2013 or January 2014, we will present you ever Croft Bank of the most important information for the hand Blaster not so distant future. In contrast to the Centurion Magnus needs no external magazine. The ammunition is placed directly above the blaster. As expected, the Blaster is an integrated magazine, which takes a total of 3 darts along with the positioned over darts. With a handle of the clamping mechanism is retracted so that the trigger all the fire power of the Magnus can be discharged. And we know what that means, since we kept the Centurion for the first time in their hands. According to initial rumors, the maximum range of 85 feet Magnus could be (almost 26 meters), which would slightly lower than the proclaimed for the Centurion 100 feet. On a tactical rail accessory rail extensions Hasbro has not waived at the Magnus, it is located at the bottom of the Blasters. The blaster is held in the familiar colors of the Mega Series (red, orange, gray, white, gray) and offers a simple, yet perfected look. Due to the relative low weight, and the present design of a single-Blasters, the Magnus can easily fire with one hand. Included with the Knifte are in addition to the small blaster from the Mega Series is a collection of 3 Mega Darts. There is more ammunition separately in refill packs.

I don't expect this blaster to be launched any time soon because it took ages for us to get the Centurion after it was leaked. I would be VERY surprised if Australia got this blaster before Christmas. The Banckroft listing also states that it is not currently available.

On a more positive note, this blaster looks to be of the direct plunger variety. I hope I'm right about that because if Hasbro didn't learn anything from the Centurion then I'll be disappointed.

  1. It may have an internal magazine, loaded via an actual clip (M1 Garand style), instead of an external removable box magazine which everyone (including Hasbro) incorrectly calls a clip.

    1. You might be right, there does appear to be enough space under the barrel for an extra two darts. I'm just wondering how one would push the darts through the breech into the clip, unless, there is a door similar to the Vigilon on the other side?

    2. If it does come with an actual clip (something that holds darts but doesn't feed them into the working parts) of three darts, it could just load the magazine (the bit that feeds the darts) by pushing the clip into it through the top (like an M1 Garand)? It probably won't happen, but it'd be awesome if the clip flew out of the magazine after it fires the last shot (even more like an M1 Garand! :D ).

You also might be right. It might not have a clip at all. It might just have a built in magazine which you load with individual darts like a Speedload 6.

If it does have a clip to load it's internal mag, things are going to get really confusing. IIRC the whole mag/clip confusion came about because of the Garand. :P

  3. the little indent near the front on top (dart sized) may be an internal mag which you load from top, and that's why it has all that extra room under the barrel...
