2014 Nerf Year In Retrospect

Well, it's Christmas (as I'm writing this) and it's about this time of year when we think about the year behind us. So lets think about Nerf in 2014 and have a look at all that's happened.

N-Strike Sharpfire Box... yes N-Strike, not Elite

This is an interesting development. After we were told that the Blazin' Bow would be the last new N-Strike blaster. We've just been given the second since then.

This is a blaster I've been waiting for for so long. Since I saw the 2015 blaster leak pic, I wanted it, it had to be mine! And I have one!

Rebelle Secret Shot and Zombiestrike Dreadshot

So the Rebelle Secret Shot leaked recently and the concept art had it in pink. Then we saw it in purple. And now there is a light-up Zombistrike blaster.

More after boing.

Credit goes to Darren Booth for these finds. Secret Shots first.

These pics are from Baidu user Longtouai.

The box art is obviously Photoshopped from pink to purple variations. The model is "of ethnic heritage" is probably as most politically correct as I can put it. The model has the blaster folded up and placed under her arm because that's how hand bags work. However, calling it the "Secret Shot" when it has great big Nerf logos on the side is a little redundant. It's also the third blaster to get the Secret Shot name, remember these?

And now we have the Super Soaker Zombiestrike Dreadshot.

Note the caricature firing the blaster with one hand? This is good because it means it might be air powered! But closer inspection of the box shows that it requires batteries. So it might be motor driven. But, another look at the box reveals that the reservoir glows (top right). These things lead me to two conclusions.
1. It's air powered and only needs the battery to light up the tank
2. It needs batteries for the lighting up the tank and for shooting the water

This is also the first Zombiestrike Super Soaker to get it's own design, all we've had so far were these.

I quite like the design of the Dreadshot, and if the illustrated jets of water are any indicator of it's discharge rate, it should be good for soaking. I think the name 'Dreadshot' would've been better suited on a dart blaster though. Maybe a dedicated Zombiestrike Mega blaster.

What are your thoughts?

A better look at the Cyclone Shock box art

Mega Cycloneshock Box Art and More Pics

It was going to happen sooner or later. And here it is, Cycloneshock box art... after the jump, LOL!

Easy rebarrel mod guide, seriously, you won't believe how easy it is.

I picked up some 13mm (outer diameter) aluminium recently. One metre of aluminium costs the same as 30cm of brass, and it's lighter. So I decided to try it out.

Where Have I Been?

It's been a while since I'd posted anything. Life has been very busy for me since the start of August due to an IT course I'm doing. Any spare time I had for Nerf is now study time. Right now I'm on subject two of three and two classes into the total of five for this subject. Then I get two weeks off, then the third and final subject. Maybe then I'll have time for Nerf.

Holsters: Third Party vs Nerf

REVIEW: Elite Alpha Trooper

This is it. The famed EAT. The N-Strike version of the Alpha Trooper won hearts with it's slam-fire ability and it's lightweight and narrow profile. But. When I used the N-Strike version, I wasn't taken buy it. Will it be different with the Elite incarnation?

I'll be honest, I've been avoiding this write up. This is the longest project I've ever undertaken and because I'll be starting studies soon, it'll be my last for a while, at least on this scale. This is more of an overview really, I wouldn't call this a guide. Nor would I recommend anyone actually do this mod. Three blasters had to die to make this.

Beginner's Guide to Modding - by guest author Bobololo

Hello to all the wonderful readers of the Southern Brisbane Nerf Club blog! I am your host for this post, Bobololo.

Today, I’m going to talk to you about some key steps to take in the modding world. This post is geared towards the newcomers and people who haven’t gotten into modding yet. Maybe some of this will be a nice refresher for the intermediate crowd? Anyway, let’s begin!

The Trudgeon, mod walkthrough

I've been wanting to do a Rapidstrike modification for a while now. But a LiPo in the battery tray and a pair of 180 motors, will make it perform marvellously, but it will not look too different from a stock Rapidstrike. I wanted to make my Rapidstrike my Rapidstrike. So here is what I did.

Baidu and Taobao silenced... now what?

As a blogger, every time I visited Taobao and Baidu, it was sorta like getting a Christmas present. Excited at what you might get, the anticipation and then you open it and it's exactly what you wanted! White Rough Cut, orange Stryfe, everyday bought a new joy to this little blogger. But now that Hasbro has cracked down on security at the factory, my Christmas tree has no presents under it.

REVIEW: Orange Mod Works Rampage Unleashed SOLID kit

I love the Rampage. I know there are better blasters available, but the Rampage will always have a spot in my heart. It was the first big Elite blaster I bought when I got back into Nerf and was the gateway blaster that sparked the Nerf fire within me again. And Orange Mod Works (OMW) have an upgrade kit for it :)

REVIEW: Super Soaker Barrage

Aaahh shot gun blasters. Be it single or double barreled, there is just something about them that appeals to a male Nerfer's masculinity, and the Barrage does a pretty good job at it.

China's loveable shenanigans.

China, more than 80% of manufactured goods on the planet is made in China. And this isn't just Nerf blasters, clothes or rubber thongs. Raw materials are made there as well. For example, a pair of shoes made in Thailand are most likely to have been made from rubber and synthetics made in China. With all this manufacturing going around and with China's "more of a guide line" approach to copyrights, trade marks and patents, we get copies and knock offs. Nerf is no exception to this.

REVIEW: Super Soaker Hydro Fury

Now that the months in Australia are getting cooler Super Soakers are getting cheaper here. REVIEW: Nerf Dart Tag Sharp Shot

Once in a while, you come across a blaster that takes you by surprise, the Sharp Shot is one of those blasters.

Absence of content explained

Time passes quickly when you're busy. And I've had a lot on my plate recently to keep me busy. There are a select few who know what's been taking up most of my free time recently and I'm really hoping I'll be able to come through with it! I'm not going to say anything right now, it's a secret, but it's the biggest Nerf mod project I've ever undertaken!

Other things sucking my time include my pool. The electric thingy that converts salt (salt water pool) into chlorine needs to be replaced and as a result the pool needs way more maintenance then it usually would. I've also been placed on night shift for the last two weeks and that severely limits the time I have to blog and film YouTube episodes.

I'm on another week of night shift this week, then hopefully there won't be any more for a while.

Just letting you know I'm not dead. Because that's how the internet and YouTube works, if you don't post anything for a while, then people think you've died.

Rise of the independents

A few weeks ago now, Xplorer announce they/he would be making his own blaster. From the ground up, scratch, drawn on a napkin while at a pub, blaster. Then, not to be out done, Orange Mod Works announces that they're doing the same. My head almost split in two from the giant grin on my face. But, then I started to think seriously about this, and I probably shouldn't have.

New Nerf at New York (part two)

So in this part. It's not really Nerf, but, items being marketed as "From the makers of Nerf" and a Tek Recon as well.

New Nerf at New York (part one)

Since the abrupt halt of information from Baidu and Taobao, there has been not much for us bloggers to go on.
